Minister Basuki Targets Sepaku Dam In East Kalimantan To Be Completed In December 2023
JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono targets the construction of the Sepaku Semoi Dam in Tengin Baru Village, Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim), to be completed in December 2023.
Minister Basuki advised that the construction of the Sepaku Semoi Dam, which has been under construction since July 2020, could be completed on time according to the contract target in December 2023. Currently, the physical progress has reached 30.69 percent.
"This dam was built to meet the raw water needs in Balikpapan. The total capacity is 10 million cubic meters, to meet the raw water needs of 2,500 liters/second and also to reduce flooding by around 53 percent," Minister Basuki said in a written statement received in Jakarta, quoted by the Jakarta Post. The construction of the Sepaku Semoi Dam is under the responsibility of the Kalimantan IV River Basin Center (BWS) of the Directorate General of Water Resources of the Ministry of PUPR with a multi-year contract until 2023 worth IDR 556 billion. The implementing contractor is PT Brantas Abipraya-PT Sacna-PT BRP (KSO).
Basuki said that at this time the construction of the Sepaku River intake with a capacity of 3.34 cubic meters/second with the Balikpapan City service area had also begun and the planned water treatment plant (IPA) around Sepaku. The work is carried out from 2021 to 2023.
In addition, in 2020 a feasibility study has also been carried out for the construction of the Batu Lepek Dam with the potential to meet the raw water demand of 5,000 liters/second. Furthermore, in 2021 a feasibility study has also been carried out for the construction of the Selamatyu Dam with a raw water potential of 3,950 liters/second. Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani in her written testimony stated her hope that the Sepaku Semoi Dam can provide great benefits to the community.
"Hopefully the Sepaku Semoi Dam will provide a source of life and encourage people's welfare with good and healthy water quality," said Sri Mulyani.

In East Kalimantan Province, there are currently six infrastructures that have been the source of raw water, namely the Manggar Dam in Balikpapan (14.2 million cubic meters), the Barnacle Dam in Balikpapan (2.43 million cubic meters), the Aji Raden Embung in East Kalimantan. Balikpapan (0.49 million cubic meters), Samboja Dam in Kutai Kartanegara (5.09 million cubic meters), Mahakam River Kalhol Intake (0.02 million cubic meters), and Lempake Dam in Samarinda (0.67 million cubic meters) .
