Komnas Perempuan: Number Of Reporters Of Sexual Violence On Campus Increases
JAKARTA - Komnas Perempuan Commissioner Maria Ulfah Anshor revealed that the number of victims who reported cases of sexual violence on campuses or universities experienced a drastic increase after the ratification of the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation on the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in Higher Education.
"Those who have not dared to report so far, but after the Permendikbud (Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 30 of 2021, ed.), it has increased," said Maria in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, January 6. .
He made this statement when giving a presentation on material in a webinar with the theme Indonesia Emergency Sexual Violence which was broadcast on the Zoom Meeting platform and monitored from Jakarta.
The phenomenon of an increase in the number of cases reported by victims of sexual violence in universities shows that Permendikbud 30/2021 has begun to succeed in uncovering the iceberg phenomenon that has been happening in universities.
However, Maria said that Komnas Perempuan still does not have definite data regarding the increasing number of reports obtained.
In addition, Maria also said that the success of the Permendikbud in giving courage to victims of sexual violence to report their experiences, shows that the presence of the regulation does not aim to legalize adultery, as it became a polemic in the community after Permendikbud 30/2021 was passed.
"This is a fact that the debate regarding the substance in Permendikbud 30/2021 is to see that sexual violence that occurs on campus is real, not legalizing adultery and others," he said.
The Komnas Perempuan commissioner also views that Permendikbud 30/2021 can be a bridge before the Law on the Crime of Sexual Violence is passed. The implementation of Permendikbud 30/2021 can give an idea of how the community will react if the Law on the Crime of Sexual Violence is passed.
Together with activists and various organizations working in the field of human rights, Komnas Perempuan pushed for the ratification of the Bill on the Crime of Sexual Violence.
"The reason behind why the TPKS Bill is urgent is that victims do not get the right to justice, truth and reparation," said Maria.
