Nganjuk Regent Inactive Sentenced To 7 Years In Prison

SIDOARJO - Inactive Nganjuk Regent Novi Rahman Hidayat was sentenced to 7 years in prison with a fine of Rp. 200 million if not paid, replaced by six months in prison during a trial at the Surabaya Corruption Crime District Court in Sidoarjo, East Java.

"Impointed a prison sentence of seven years and a fine of Rp. 200 million," said Chief Justice I Ketut Suarta when reading his verdict, quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 6.

The judge's verdict for the non-active Nganjuk Regent, Novi Rahman Hidayat, was lower than the prosecutor's demands, namely 9 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 300 million, subsidiary of eight months in prison.

Regarding the decision, the defendant who attended the trial online admitted that he was thinking about it.

"Please give the panel of judges three days. We are still thinking about it," said the defendant.

After the trial, the defendant's lawyer Ade Dharma Maryanto said he was disappointed with the verdict because the legal facts contradicted the facts of the trial.

"It is the judge's decision and we will talk to our client whether to take legal action or not," he said.

In this case, the defendant was found guilty after forcing the village heads in their area to conduct a selection of village officials through the sub-district heads to pay Rp10 million to Rp15 million each.

In this case, the defendant was charged with Article 12 letter e of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.
