Azis conveyed this to a woman named Yanti Sumiati, a resident of East Lampung who had received Azis assistance to finance her daughter's surgery.
Yanti said that on December 6, 2020, when she was about to give birth, she only found out that her baby had hydromacoli problems under the neck, so she had to undergo surgery which cost around Rp. 45 million. The operation had to be carried out at a major hospital in Bandar Lampung.
Because Yanti did not have the money to carry out the operation, Yanti then told her neighbor, and the neighbor shared the story on social media. Not long after, Yanti was called by a man named Rika, who was later discovered to be Azis Syamsuddin's subordinate.
Yanti said Rika picked her up from East Lampung and took care of Yanti and her child's needs for surgery.
"From the first time my child was treated, I would like to directly thank Mr. Azis. I want to give a direct speech, this heart is not yet full and I really want to say thank you directly. For me Mr. Azis is an angel sent directly by God. If not someone is helping, my child's life cannot be saved," said Yanti, also while sobbing. Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from the Golkar Party faction, Azis Syamsuddin, wept along with a lightening witness during his trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor).
"You are willing to take the time and you can provide a fact, and I believe that you are a gift from God that I do not know and have no intention of helping because of all the people, I did not know that you suddenly wanted to be a witness. I thank you "My best regards to my husband, family, I hope we can meet this meeting soon," said Azis
Azis revealed this from the defendant's chair and seemed to be in tears.
"And this will not relax me, because I believe that what I do is not necessary for other people to know. I don't want other people to know what I am doing if it is my intention only for the sake of Allah and the pleasure of Allah," said Azis as well.
Yanti also admitted that she did not know that there were Azis confidants named Edi Sujarwo or Aliza Gunado.
"There is no name, there are Mr. Rika and Mr. Azis, I also knew Mr. Azis after my child was born," said Yanti.
"As far as the witness knows, what party does the witness support in his home environment?" asked Azis' legal adviser, Rifai Kusumanegara.
"PDIP," answered Yanti.
"So you're not a supporter of the Golkar Party, are you?" asked Rifai again.
"No, PDI(P), leaning towards PDI(P)," Yanti replied.
Rifai said he brought Yanti and another witness, Irawan Dimyati alias Asep, who received assistance in the form of building 4 mosques and 7 donations of sacrificial animals to show that Azis often carries out social and humanitarian activities without any strings attached.
"Hopefully this trial can see the defendant as a whole, according to wise words sometimes we can't measure people's clothes on our own bodies," said Rifai.
In this case, Azis Syamsuddin was charged with giving bribes worth IDR 3,099 billion and US$ 36,000 or a total of around IDR 3,619 billion to former KPK investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju and advocate Maskur Husain related to the management of the KPK investigation in Central Lampung.
