Elipitua Siregar Ambitious To Stop The Ilonggo's Domination From Indonesian Fighters At ONE Championship
JAKARTA - Elipitua “The Magician” Siregar is determined to overcome the Filipino fighter, Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan, who has been quite dominant when facing Indonesian fighters in free combat (MMA), ONE Championship.
Quoted from Antara, Thursday, January 6, Elipitua Siregar will face Robin Catalan in a match titled ONE: HEAVY HITTERS at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, Singapore, next Friday.
The owner of a record of four wins in five matches in ONE Championship is determined to give his best considering that his two seniors namely Adrian “Papua Badboy” Mattheis and Stefer “The Lion” Rahardian were helpless against Robin Catalan.
"I want to prove that I can win by a landslide. My senior at that time lost not because of his lack of ability, but maybe because of other things. I thought that my two seniors had good abilities, and should have won at that time,” said Elipitua Siregar.
Elipitua has good capital to avenge his two senior defeats. He has always been dominant in ONE Championship with a record four flash wins – three by lock-up and one by KO/TKO.
In fact, the only defeat he suffered was in a match he dominated. When facing Liu Peng Shuai from China in Bangkok, Thailand, February 2019, the fighter nicknamed “The Magician” appeared aggressive throughout the first and second rounds. However, an unexpected kimura technique from the opponent managed to steal victory in the third round.
Moreover, currently Elipitua is training with the owners of iron fists in Bali MMA, which can be a mainstay weapon against Robin Catalan. As is known, the 31-year-old fighter is a wushu and Muay Thai champion in the Philippines.
“Obviously Bali MMA striking coaches like Kru Don and Kru Saechan are very important [to hone my game], because they are known as legendary coaches. It is an honor for me to be trained directly by world class coaches like them,” said Elipitua.
Robin Catalan is not a random opponent. In addition to being a wushu and Muay Thai champion, he has won five MMA victories at ONE Championship with two of them by finishes.
However, Elipitua Siregar admitted that during his training in Bali, he had received input from Stefer Rahardian, who had previously been defeated by Robin Catalan. Tips and input from Stefer could be the key to Elipitua's victory.
“It is certain that the input is useful, because later there is a possibility that I will go with Stefer to Singapore. If all goes well - and hopefully there are no obstacles - I will go with Stefer," concluded Elipitua.
