Badung Prosecutor's Office Leaves 60 Detainees Due To Overcapacity

DENPASAR - The Badung District Prosecutor's Office, Bali has entrusted 60 detainees to several Correctional Institutions (Lapas) and detention centers in the Bali area due to excess capacity at the Class IIA Kerobokan Prison.

"The transfer of detainees whose status is still in the trial process is carried out because the Badung Police Rutan and Kerobokan Prison are experiencing 'over' capacity, so far 60 prisoners have been entrusted," said Head of the Badung District Attorney I Ketut Maha Agung quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 5 .

Maha Agung said that since Monday, December 27, 2021, 28 prisoners had been transferred, continued on Friday, December 31, 13 prisoners and Wednesday, January 5, 19 prisoners were entrusted.

Of the 60 prisoners, they were entrusted to the Bangli, Gianyar, Badung and Tabanan prisons because the Kerobokan prison was over capacity and under renovation.

"Which of the detainees being transferred are prisoners whose status is still in the trial process or has been transferred to the Denpasar District Court," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Intelligence Section, I Made Gde Bamaxs Wira Wibowo, added that the transfer of a number of detainees had become a good consideration from the Badung Kejari by taking into account the security factors and human rights of the detainees.

"The explosion in the number of prisoners in Kerobokan Prison must of course be a concern so that it can be addressed immediately," he said.

He said the average detainee who was transferred from general criminal cases included narcotics, forgery, theft and other cases.
