President Joko Widodo Inaugurates Johar Market Semarang
SEMARANG - President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Johar Market in Semarang, Central Java, which was completed after a fire a few years ago.
Before inaugurating Johar Market, the President had the opportunity to review the condition of the revitalized cultural heritage building.
In about 30 minutes, the President checked the conditions in the North, Central, and South Johar Markets and interacted with the traders.
In his remarks, Jokowi asked that the market which had been built with the budget of the state budget be kept clean and safe.
"I entrust it, keep it clean, keep it safe so that this market really becomes a clean, neat, orderly market, and doesn't turn into a dirty and smelly market," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 5.
Jokowi also hopes that the market, which is already good and tidy, will become a bustling market.
"Restoring the past glory of Johar Market and as a 'landmark' of Semarang City," he added.
President Jokowi emphasized that the crowded market indicates that there is a movement of the people's economy with transactions and buying and selling activities that move the people's economic chain.
The revitalization by becoming a cleaner, modern, and orderly market, he said, did not disturb the rules of Johar as a cultural heritage building.
The North and Central Johar Markets were built at a cost of IDR 146 billion, while the South Johar Markets were built at a cost of IDR 103 billion.
To increase the capacity of traders, the Kanjengan Market was built which is still in one area with a budget of Rp. 20.3 billion.
