Food Prices Rise, DPRD Will Summon DKI Provincial Government Officials

JAKARTA - Head of Commission B for the Economy of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Abdul Aziz, said that his party would summon the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government to explain about the increase in food prices in the capital city earlier this year.

The ranks of the DKI Provincial Government in question include the DKI Food, Maritime and Agriculture Security Service; BUMD Perumda Pasar Jaya, Dharma Jaya, and Food Station.

"We will schedule a meeting tomorrow at 10.00 WIB regarding the evaluation of last year and this year's plan. It includes an increase in the price of chili eggs, how to anticipate the local government in the future," said Aziz at the DKI DPRD building, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, January 5.

In the short term, the DKI Provincial Government has prepared market operations to maintain stock and suppress rising food prices. Aziz said the DPRD needed an explanation of the long-term program to be carried out.

"When we talk about subsidies, we are talking about the long term. In the short term, it's market operations. Because of this, this has a lot to do with storage or cold storage for goods that do fluctuate.

"We will check whether the stock is sufficient for goods whose prices fluctuate. To carry out market operations, we need to ask," he added.
