DPR Commission II: South Timor Must Be Wary Of Unfit Candidates In The Selection Of Candidates For KPU-Bawaslu Members
JAKARTA - The Selection Team (Timsel) of Candidates for KPU-Bawaslu Members for the 2022-2027 Period has finished conducting interview tests for candidates for members of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) and the General Elections Commission (KPU). Member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Guspardi Gaus, reminded South Timor to ensure that those who pass are figures with high competence, capability, and credibility. According to him, candidates who pass must have good knowledge of matters relating to elections and their complexities.
"Don't be impressed that those who pass are people who lack the ability and experience and lack of insight," said Guspardi, Wednesday, January 5. In addition to having broad insight and experience, continued Guspardi, another important factor is the integrity and independence of candidates who have no relationship with political parties are factors that need to be considered. Because he said, they are the ones who will be tasked with carrying out the presidential, legislative and regional elections.
"Timsel should not choose candidates who only seek public office. We must not fail to deliver heads of state, legislature, governors, regents and mayors," said the PAN politician.
The legislator from West Sumatra explained that the interview test involved 48 participants consisting of 28 candidates for KPU members and 20 candidates for Bawaslu members. South Timor will screen and leave 24 candidates including 14 candidates for KPU members and 10 candidates for Bawaslu members to then submit their names to President Jokowi.
The next process, said Guspardi, the President will submit a list of names to the DPR to take a fit and proper test (fit and proper test) to determine the 7 elected members of the KPU and 5 elected members of Bawaslu. "The board members will explore the substance of the election to the candidates and will examine the track record, capability, independence and integrity of the KPU-Bawaslu leadership candidate," said Guspardi.
Therefore, he continued, the candidate who will be proposed to the DPR later is a person who is qualified and has the courage to take breakthrough policies that can overcome the complexity of problems in the administration of elections.
"The selection team (Timsel) must be solid, careful and precise in making their choices," he said.
He reminded again that South Timor should not choose a candidate who cannot distinguish between a neutral and non-partisan position and the struggle for the public interest. Because it will be able to damage confidence in the work and election management institutions.
"So the candidates who are entitled to qualify are figures who are worthy, competent and have high integrity in carrying out the election," concluded this member of the DPR RI Baleg. The interview test for candidates for Bawaslu members will take place December 26-27 2021. While the interview tests for candidates for KPU members will take place December 28-30 2021.
The interview was led by the Chairperson of the KPU-Bawaslu Timsel Juri Ardiantoro and was attended by all members of the South East Timor. And the interview test is open to the public by broadcasting through the YouTube channel "Timsel KPU BAWASLU".
