AMD Releases New Processors To Seize Intel's Market And Make It Outdated
JAKARTA - Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD) on Tuesday, January 4 released a new line of central processors for laptops, including processors aimed at taking market share from rival Intel Corp in the corporate PC world.
AMD has previously been able to take over Intel's leadership in the processor market, in making the fastest chips for most Windows-based laptops. Even their latest processor has helped push its market share to 22% in the third quarter of last year.
The new Ryzen 6000 chip, which was announced at the start of the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, is also aimed at keeping that momentum going. Even this chip is said to make Intel seem outdated.
AMD said last Tuesday that the PC maker plans to use the chip in 200 different laptop models this year. This number is up from 150 laptop models in the previous year.
They also announced a deal with Lenovo Group Ltd to supply chips for a new laptop model called the ThinkPad Z, an “expensive machine” aimed at corporate users. This is a market where Intel's market share is eroding more slowly.
As reported by Reuters, AMD said that Asustek Computer Inc., Dell Technologies Inc. and HP Inc. will also introduce machines using their new chips. This is the beginning of AMD's victory over Intel in controlling the laptop market.
