Child With Dizziness, Fever And Pain After Injection Of The COVID Vaccine? Komnas KIPI: It Was A Natural Reaction, But...
JAKARTA - Head of the National Commission for Post-Immunization Adverse Events (Komnas KIPI) Hindra Irawan Satari said parents need to monitor the condition of their child's development one to two days after vaccination for COVID-19.
"AEFI is a natural reaction, because a foreign object is inserted into the body to stimulate the immune system. So the body with a reaction at the injection site has fever, dizziness, aches but it only lasts one to two days," said Hindra in a live broadcast of IDAI 'Covid Vaccines' -19 on children, which was followed in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Tuesday, January 4.
Hindra said, basically a child will not be able to hide his expression when in pain. If children feel AEFIs such as fever, pain or weakness, they tend to show it. The same goes for healthy and active children.
When going to and after the COVID-19 vaccination, parents are advised not to give medicines such as fever reducers or pain relievers to children first. This needs to be done to monitor the condition of whether the child really needs the drug or not.
According to him, giving medication is not necessary if the child does not show any dangerous symptoms. However, for children who complain of a symptom, parents are expected not to delay and immediately take the child to the nearest facility to get a proper diagnosis from a doctor due to a symptom.
"I always recommend whatever the symptoms, report treatment to be sure that it is not from a vaccine and given medicine. If necessary because in one or two days it will heal and will not be fatal, if there is (AEFI) it changes quickly, get treatment quickly doctors or local health facilities. So don't delay or seek alternative treatment first, so we'll just have to monitor our children first," said Hindra.
Thus, he asked everyone to keep the necessary medicines in a medicine box away from the sun so that they can be used at any time if needed.
Hindra also explained that AEFI is normal and the proportion is low. Because AEFI does not happen to all people of all ages. However, it is needed as a prevention from various viruses through the formation of antibodies.
Meanwhile, in response to the doubts of parents in giving vaccines to their children, Hindra said Indonesia had succeeded in giving injections of 250 million doses and proved to be an example for the world. From this large number, it is proven that vaccines are safe and can protect.
In addition to the number of vaccines, a good pandemic condition that can be achieved from the hard work of all parties also occurs because almost half of Indonesia's population has vaccinated, so that its efficacy is guaranteed.
Hindra emphasized that the reason vaccines are given in stages in Indonesia according to age level is that it depends on the burden of disease. Therefore, marketing authorization cannot be given arbitrarily because research must be carried out in stages so that it can be given to children aged 6-11 years now.
He hopes that all parents can more closely monitor their child's development, immediately give children the COVID-19 vaccine and continue to carry out health protocols so that they can together break the COVID-19 chain and protect children from the spread of the various variants that exist.
"Vaccines circulated in Indonesia have very strict requirements and the authority is BPOM. So, the safety of the vaccine is as well as its protection. After making sure it is safe, a permit is issued, issued according to the age level, the elderly, then the new brothers and sisters," he said. .
