Prisoners Are Often 'broken'
SUMSEL - Officials from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of South Sumatra (Kemenkum HAM South Sumatra) sent a team to thoroughly investigate the case of prisoners who escaped from the Class II B Empat Lawang Penitentiary.
"Cases of escaped convicts have happened quite often, to prevent similar cases from happening again, it is necessary to find the root of the problem and solve it thoroughly," said Head of the Correctional Division of the South Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Dadi Mulyadi, in Palembang as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 4.
An inmate at the Class II B Empat Lawang prison is known to have escaped last Sunday, January at around 12.30 WIB, by jumping over a fence.
The prisoner named Riansyah is a resident of Lubuk Layang Village, Pendopo District, Empat Lawang Regency, South Sumatra who is caught in a drug case. Riansyah
sentenced to nine years in prison and only served six months in prison.
The team that was sent to the Empat Lawang Prison is currently conducting an examination of the officers on duty to reveal the facts of the escape of the inmates.
According to him, if during the examination there is an element of involvement of officers helping prisoners escape, strict action will be given according to the provisions. In addition, the team was also asked to check the weak points of prison security that could be used as gaps for inmates to escape.
This weak point must be addressed properly, so that cases of prisoners escaping from prison can be prevented. Meanwhile, the South Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office team is currently pursuing the escaped convicts in collaboration with the police.
