President Wants The TPKS Bill To Be Immediate Ratification, Chair Of The Panja: Team From DPR Ready To Welcome
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Working Committee on the Bill on the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS) Willy Aditya appreciates President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) statement regarding the issue of sexual violence that must be a shared concern.
The President has even ordered the Minister of Law and Human Rights along with the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection to immediately coordinate and consult with the DPR so that there are accelerated steps so that the TPKS Bill can be immediately ratified.
"As we know, the TPKS Bill is currently in the hands of the DPR leadership. The next step is the approval process at the Plenary Session to ratify it as a DPR Initiative Bill," said Willy in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 4.
"When this is legal, what has been confirmed by the president will be welcome. The team from the DPR is ready to welcome teams from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the P3A Ministry, and the Government Task Force to formulate accelerated steps in this regard," he continued.
Willy explained that the acceleration step is needed so that the process of formulating it into a law does not take too long. After going through a fairly tough debate at the Panja level, the coordination between the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the Ministry of WUA and the team in the DPR is expected to be faster.
Considering the President's encouragement to get into the main points of substance to provide legal certainty, as well as guarantee protection for victims of sexual violence.
“Moreover, we are currently in a sexual violence emergency situation. The government is certainly aware of this. So, what has been stated by President Jokowi today is really a momentum for progress in efforts to protect victims of sexual violence," said Willy.
"I believe this is also the President's awareness, so that this order was handed down to his assistants," he said.
For Willy, what the President has conveyed in his press release today is an extraordinary progress in efforts to provide protection to victims of sexual violence.
This statement, he said, has also given impetus to all parties, including the Government, the DPR, and all components of society who are concerned with this issue to continue to care and oversee the formation of regulations that provide protection to victims of sexual violence.
The NasDem politician hopes that President Jokowi's statement will become a historic momentum for the state's efforts to provide protection to victims of sexual violence to a more concrete level.
"The discussion of the TPKS Bill will then become a momentum for efforts to advance civilization in the life of the nation and state in the country," said Willy.
It is known, President Joko Widodo wants the Draft Law (RUU) on the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS) to be ratified immediately.
According to him, the existence of this law in the future is important in providing maximum protection for victims of sexual violence.
"I hope that the Bill on the Crime of Sexual Violence can be passed soon. So that it provides maximum protection for victims of sexual violence in the country," Jokowi said in a video caption uploaded to the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, Tuesday, January 4.
