COVID-19 In DKI Jakarta-Kepri Increases For 4 Weeks In A Row, Task Force Asks Anies-Ansar To Immediately Follow Up
JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, warned that two provinces were experiencing an upward trend in cases for four consecutive weeks, namely DKI Jakarta and Riau Islands.
During the last four weeks, the cases in DKI Jakarta continued to increase from 212 to 254, then increased again to 348, and finally reached 526 cases.
Meanwhile, the Riau Islands (Kepri) increased quite sharply from the initial 2 cases, increased to 93 cases, then increased again to 140, and finally reached 168 cases.
"The increase in cases for the fourth week in a row when cases in other provinces continue to experience declines, as well as low national positive cases, indicate an alarm that needs to be followed up," said Wiku in a virtual press conference, Tuesday, January 4.
Wiku stated that one of the keys to preventing a spike in cases is timing. He said the spike in cases could only be prevented by responding to case control as early as possible.
"The governors of the provinces of DKI Jakarta (Anies Baswedan) and the Riau Islands (H. Ansar Ahmad) to follow up on this matter immediately in the next two weeks," said Wiku.
"Please ensure that the task force of command posts at public facilities and at the village or sub-district level have been formed and fully functional so that health protocol supervision can be carried out optimally," he added.
Furthermore, at the beginning of this year, Wiku explained that there was a shift in the provinces that contributed to the largest addition of cases, which were no longer dominated by the provinces in the island of Java.
The five provinces are DKI with the addition of 526 cases, Riau Islands with the addition of 168 cases, West Java with 121 cases, West Papua with 117 cases, and East Java with 108 cases.
