Jokowi Orders Menkum HAM And Minister Of PPPA To Coordinate With DPR To Accelerate Ratification Of The TPKS Bill

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered the Minister of Law and Security (Menkum HAM) Yasonna Laoly together with the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati to sit with the DPR.

This step, said Jokowi, must be done so that the Draft Law (RUU) on the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS), which has been discussed for a long time since 2016, is immediately ratified.

"I have closely watched the Sexual Violence Bill, since it was in the process of being formed in 2016 until now, it is still being processed in the DPR," Jokowi said in a video caption that was shown on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Tuesday, January 3.

"Therefore, I ordered the Menkumham and the Minister for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection to immediately coordinate and consult with the DPR in the discussion of the TPKS Bill so that there are accelerated steps," he added.

Jokowi asked the government task force to handle the TPKS Bill to immediately prepare a problem inventory list (DIM) for the draft that is being prepared by the DPR.

"So that the joint discussion process will more quickly get to the main points of substance to provide legal certainty and guarantee protection for victims of sexual violence," said Jokowi.

Jokowi hopes that the TPKS Bill will soon be approved by members of parliament in Senayan. The goal is that victims of sexual violence, especially women, receive protection and can be treated immediately.

Moreover, at this time, many acts of sexual violence occur in the community. Especially, to women.

"I hope that the Bill on the Criminal Act of Sexual Violence will soon be passed so that it can provide maximum protection for victims of sexual violence in the country," he concluded.
