DPR Commission IX: The Omicron Variant Is Very Aggressive And Spreads Fast
JAKARTA - Member of Commission IX of the DPR RI, Saleh Partaonan Daulay, said that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was very aggressive and spread quickly. Thus, the government must prepare handling steps in line with the increasing number of confirmed cases of Omicron, which currently stands at 152 people.
Saleh estimates that Omicron cases in Indonesia will increase in the near future. Moreover, the high mobility of the people after enjoying the Christmas and New Year 2022 holidays.
"This variant of the omicron is very aggressive and spreads quickly. Therefore, it is necessary to anticipate and increase vigilance," Saleh told reporters, Tuesday, January 4.
The North Sumatran legislator explained that the new Omicron variant appeared near the end of the year, but its distribution has already garnered attention. In fact, it wastes energy and thought.
Because there are always new variants, Saleh predicts that in 2022 the possibility of spreading the COVID-19 virus will still exist. However, the chairman of the PAN faction admitted that he was still optimistic in facing this pandemic. Because, said Saleh, most Indonesians have been vaccinated.
"We are still optimistic. Last year we were not vaccinated. Now, many of our residents have been vaccinated. Hopefully, we can increase immunity to fight this new variant," said Saleh.
