Eijkman Merged Into BRIN, PKS Worried About Researcher Intervention In Political Interests

JAKARTA - Member of Commission IX of the DPR RI, the PKS faction, Alifudin, is worried that the intervention of the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology (LBM) by the Government through the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), will have an impact on the development of the Red and White vaccine.

The reason is, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Eijkman was one of the institutions that pushed for an appeal test for false negatives in Litbangkes.

"By being merged into BRIN, LBM Eijkman is worried that it will be easy to intervene through political interests later. Because basically researchers or scientists must continue to have high critical power," said Alifudin, Tuesday, January 4.

It is known, the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology (LBM) (WASCOVE) announced its separation in early 2022. Starting January 1, 2022, the COVID-19 detection activities at the Eijkman PRBM will be taken over by the Deputy for Research and Innovation Infrastructure of BRIN.

The member of the House of Representatives in the health sector said that if the researchers' critical reasoning was intervened, they would be wrong in obtaining the latest research results. Especially for the COVID-19 case, which has not yet ended. "This merger must be seen from various aspects, such as research staff who graduated from abroad who want to serve in Indonesia, by working at Eijkman, knowingly being laid off without severance pay. our academics are pessimistic," said Alifudin.

Once again, Alifudin was worried that Eijkman would become BRIN's political interests. This is because one of the BRIN steering boards is the leader of a political party.
