Jakarta Returns To PPKM Level 2, Because Of Omicron?

JAKARTA - PPKM in Java and Bali has been extended for another two weeks until January 17, 2022. In this PPKM extension, DKI Jakarta has again implemented PPKM Level 2, from Level 1.

This is stated in the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 01 of 2022 concerning the Enforcement of Restrictions on Community Activities Level 3, Level 2, and Level 1 COVID-19 in the Java and Bali Regions.

"The Governor of DKI Jakarta has instructed the Regency/City area with Level 2 criteria, namely the Thousand Islands Administrative District, West Jakarta Administrative City, East Jakarta Administrative City, South Jakarta Administrative City, North Jakarta Administrative City and Central Jakarta Administrative City," wrote Minister of Home Affairs Tito. in the Ministry of Home Affairs quoted on Tuesday, January 4.

Jakarta implemented PPKM Level 2 when the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 had already spread. This province became the area where the Omicron case was first detected, namely the janitor at the Wisma Atlet.

DKI was also the first province to detect Omicron transmission through local transmission, namely a man with no history of foreign travel.

As of January 3, there have been 152 cases of Omicron in Indonesia. This number puts Indonesia in 40th place out of 132 countries with the most Omicron cases. Most Omicron cases are in Jakarta.

The majority of cases are imported cases or brought by foreign travelers who enter Indonesia. Meanwhile, six of these cases were local transmissions with no history of travel from abroad. Daily COVID-19 cases as of January 3 added 172 cases with an accumulation of 865,690. As of yesterday, active cases in Jakarta also rose by 150 cases, bringing the total number of active cases to 694.

The cure rate for COVID-19 cases in Jakarta is 98.4 percent and the death rate is 1.6 percent. The positivity rate for the week is 0.8 percent.

Previously, Jakarta had implemented PPKM Level 2 on November 30 to December 13, 2021. Then, as of December 14, 2021 to January 3, 2022, Jakarta implemented PPKM Level 1.
