Hundreds Of Houses Of South Sumatra OKU Residents Hit By Flood

BATURAJA - Hundreds of houses in Gunung Meraksa Village, Lubuk Batang District, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra were hit by floods due to the high intensity of rainfall that occurred on Sunday, January 2, evening.

"It was raining with very heavy intensity with a long duration last night causing a flood disaster," said Manager of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU), Gunalfi in Baturaja, quoted by Antara, Monday, January 3.

He explained, in the natural disaster, as many as 100 houses in Gunung Feeling Village were recorded to have been flooded by up to one meter.

Water with a height of up to one meter entered residential areas, causing hundreds of residents to be evacuated to safe places to anticipate casualties.

"There were no fatalities. However, more than 100 heads of families were evacuated from the elderly to children," he said.

In the evacuation process, his party deployed dozens of personnel using rubber boats and other complete equipment to be transported to the highlands.

Officers assisted by volunteers struggled to pick up residents who were trapped in the flood to be transported to temporary shelters until the water began to recede.

"Currently the water conditions have begun to recede and some residents have returned to their respective homes," he said.

However, even though the flood had receded, he asked the community, especially those close to the Ogan Watershed (DAS), to increase their vigilance in anticipating further disasters because it is predicted that high rainfall will still occur for the next few days.
