Tommy Sumardi Absent From Criminal Investigation Due To Illness
JAKARTA - Tommy Sumardi is absent, aka not fulfilling the summons of investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police Headquarters for questioning in the alleged bribery case for the removal of red notice Djoko Tjandra.
Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Awi Setiyono said, Tommy Sumardi did not come because he was sick. Through his lawyer, Tommy submitted a sick letter to the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
"For the suspect TS (Tommy Sumardi), at 10:00 WIB, his lawyer was present and he conveyed that TS could not attend the summons of the Corruption Eradication Commission investigator, Bareskrim Polri because of illness," said Awi to the media crew, Jakarta, Monday, August 24.
Thus, said Awi, his party will reschedule. "However, according to his promise, he said that tomorrow he would be pleased to attend, so we are both waiting for the implementation tomorrow," said Awi.
Meanwhile, the investigation on Djoko Tjandra is said to be still ongoing. In addition, in the investigation of this case, 17 people were examined.
"Bareskrim Polri Corruption investigators have examined 16 witnesses to this day, then 1 expert is a criminal law expert," said Awi.
Based on the investigation, Tommy Sumardi is an entrepreneur in the service sector. Tommy 's connection in this case stems from his communication with Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo and asking to be introduced to officials at the International Relations Division (Divhubinter) at the National Police Headquarters in charge of NCB Interpol Indonesia.
Then, it was said that NCB Interpol Indonesia informed Immigration about Djoko Tjandra's red notice that had been deleted. The reason is that the Attorney General's Office did not extend it after 2014.
In the end, Tommy Sumardi was named a suspect as the giver of bribes along with Djoko Tjandra in the case of alleged removal of red notice. He was also charged with Article 5 Paragraph 1, Article 13 of Law 20/2020 concerning Corruption (Tipikor) in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code.
The two other suspects are Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte and Brigadier General Prasetyo Utomo. Both are suspected as recipients of bribes for red notice removal.
They are charged with Article 5 Paragraph 2, Article 11 and Article 12 letters a and b of Law Number 20 of 2020 concerning Corruption (Tipikor) in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code.
