KPK Wants To Handle Case Of Extortion Of Kasiswa Inhu, AGO Rely On Coordination
JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has confirmed that it will continue to handle the case of alleged extortion with the suspected Head of the State Prosecutor's Office (Kajari) Indragiri Hulu (Inhu), Riau. The AGO emphasized that there is a coordination-supervision function related to the statement of the KPK leadership which stated that the case should ideally be handled by the KPK.
“Don't take over. We have supervision coordination, "said Kapuspenkum Kejagung, Hari Setiyono to reporters, Monday, August 24.
In the alleged extortion case, the Corruption Eradication Commission and the AGO, according to Hari, conducted their respective investigations. But the KPK and the AGO are said to have coordinated.
The AGO carried out a legal process after receiving information in July 2020. Meanwhile, the investigation conducted by the KPK was a follow-up from the inspectorate.
"That is a form of supervision coordination. So we coordinate with each other, there is an MoU of cooperation between law enforcement officials at the Attorney General's Office, the Police and the KPK," said Hari.
Hari confirmed that the prosecution of the case was in accordance with the rules. "So it is not taking over but there is coordination of supervision. We carry out these activities (investigations), then coordinate, are arrested, detained. Then an investigation is carried out against the person concerned. So once again there is no such thing as taking over," said Hari.
Previously, KPK Deputy Chairman Nawawi Pomolango considered that his party should handle the extortion case of prosecutors from Indragiri Hulu, Riau. By being handled by the KPK, it is hoped that this case can be investigated fairly.
"Ideally, KPK should handle corruption cases that involve law enforcement officials. It would be fairer to foster a sense of public confidence in the handling of the cases in question," Nawawi told reporters, Wednesday, August 19.
Moreover, based on Article 11 of the Corruption Eradication Commission Law, it is stated that this anti-corruption agency has the authority to deal with suspected corruption crimes committed by other law enforcement officials.
In addition, Nawawi also reminded that this authority was given by the KPK due to public distrust of the ability of other law enforcement officers to resolve allegations of internal corruption.
The AGO has named three suspects at the Indragiri Hulu District Attorney (Kejari) for allegedly forcibly extortion of the School Operational Assistance (BOS) budget for the 2019 Fiscal Year.
The three people are the Head of the Indragiri Hulu Public Prosecutor's Office with the initials HS, the Head of the Special Crimes Section of the Indragiri Hulu Public Prosecutor's Office with the initials OAP, and the Head of Seizure Goods Sub-Section in the Management of Evidence and Seized Goods Section of the Indragiri Hulu Public Prosecutor's Office with the initials RFR. The three are suspected of extorting 64 school principals worth Rp. 650 million.
