IMEI Validation Rules Delayed Again, Ministry Of Industry: Still In Process

JAKARTA - The government is reportedly going to enforce the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) validation rules on black market (BM) cell phones today. However, it seems that the plan has been delayed again, aka delayed from the set schedule.

Director of Electronics and Telematics Industry, Dini Hanggandari, through her secretary Rini revealed that the IMEI number validation rules cannot be implemented today, even the schedule is not known for sure.

"It is still in process, and it is not yet known when (the implementation)," said Rini when contacted by VOI, Monday, August 24.

In addition, the Head of Data and Information Center of the Ministry of Industry, Janu Suryanto, stated that currently the imported Product Registration Certificate (TPP) IMEI has entered the production process into the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) machine.

"The Data and Information Center has deposited import and production TPP IMEI data into the CIER machine," said Janu to VOI.

Because previously, the Director of the Electronics and Telematics Industry at the Directorate General (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, Achmad Rodjih, revealed that the CEIR machine was not ready for use, so it is only on August 24 that it is planned to be implemented. But unfortunately, the constraints and when the IMEI rules will be enforced, the Ministry of Industry has not been able to provide a definite answer.

Previously it was reported that the implementation of the IMEI regulation was actually implemented on April 18 along with the socialization for six months. Unfortunately, until now the circulation of BM cellphones in the market is still widely encountered, even recently the case of Putera Siregar's PS Store was revealed.

Some time ago the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G Plate revealed why this IMEI regulation needs to be stipulated, because, "first to protect the domestic mobile industry, second to ensure the country's economy from the PBB is applied, if BM cell phones do not have taxes. Third, consumer protection. Don't let this handheld unsafe to use by users. "

For users who have not yet checked the 14 digit IMEI number on their cellphone, the government has provided a site to check the IMEI for mobile phones, you just have to click on the following link then enter your mobile IMEI number https://imei.kemenperin.go.id/ .
