Had Weaken Throughout The Day, The Rupiah Closed The Strongest Monday In Asia Pacific

JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate on the spot market managed to appear strong at the beginning of this week. After moving lower this morning, the rupiah finally strengthened at the close of trading.

On Monday, August 24, the rupiah closed at Rp14,671 per US dollar. This made the rupiah strengthen 0.70 percent or become the currency with the highest strengthening in the Asia Pacific region.

Until 15.00 WIB, most currencies in Asia were moving stronger. Where, the Thai baht is one level below the rupiah after rising 0.28 percent.

Followed by the Indian rupee which rose 0.16 percent and the Singapore dollar which rose 0.13 percent against the US dollar.

Furthermore, there was the Chinese yuan which managed to lift up 0.07 percent. This was followed by the Malaysian ringgit which appreciated 0.02 percent and the Hong Kong dollar which edged up 0.01 percent ahead of this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the South Korean won became the currency with the deepest weakness in Asia after dropping 0.25 percent. Next there is the Philippine peso and the Japanese yen, which both fell 0.04 percent against the US dollar.
