Manchester City Defender Cancelo Attacked By Robbers: Jewel Missing, Upper Right Eye Injured

JAKARTA - Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo admits he was assaulted during a robbery, and posted on Instagram a photo of himself with the wound above his right eye.

Cancelo on Thursday night did not say where the incident took place but the club later said it happened at the 27-year-old's home.

"Unfortunately today I was attacked by four cowards who injured me and tried to harm my family," Cancelo said on his Instagram. "When you show resistance, this is what happens.

"They managed to take all the jewelry and leave me with my face in this state.

"The most important thing for me is my family and luckily they are all fine."

Manchester City said on its website in a statement that it was providing support to the player and his family and that he was assisting the police with the investigation.

The club also expressed shock at what happened to Cancelo that night.
