BMKG Recorded 13 Aftershocks Occurred In Southwest Maluku, Residents Asked To Be Alert To Avoid Cracked Buildings
AMBON - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said there were 13 aftershocks after the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that rocked Southwest Maluku Regency, Maluku today.
"The results of BMKG monitoring have 13 aftershocks of earthquake activity, with the largest magnitude 7.3 and the smallest 4.1," said Head of BMKG Class 1 Ambon Geophysics Station, Herlambang Hudha in Ambon quoted from Antara, Thursday, December 30.
The results of the BMKG analysis showed that the initial information for this earthquake had a parameter with a magnitude of 7.4 which was then updated to a magnitude of 7.3.
The epicenter or epicenter is located at coordinates 7.68 LS-127.55 BT, precisely at sea at a distance of 132 Km east of Tiakur City, Southwest Maluku Regency, Maluku with a hypocenter depth of 183 km.
Previously, the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Mitigation Coordinator, Daryono, stated in a release that the earthquake had a source mechanism with a thrust fault due to strong pressure within the subducted tectonic plate.
According to him, the impact of the earthquake in the form of shocks showed that this earthquake was felt strongly in Tiakur on an intensity scale of V-VI MMI, Tepa IV-V, Saumlaki IV MMI, Tual, Kupang, Alor, Rote, Malacca, Atambua, Sumba III-IV MMI. The farthest shock from this earthquake was felt in Sorong City, West Papua.
The public is advised to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified.
Residents are advised to avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged by the earthquake. Check and make sure the residential building is earthquake-resistant enough, or that there is no damage due to earthquake vibrations that endanger the stability of the building before you return to the house.
