Rossi's Name Will Be Immortalized As One Of The MotoGP Trophies
JAKARTA - The name Valentino Rossi is known as a racer who has a myriad of achievements and slick records on the MotoGP race track. However, starting from the 2022 season, fans will no longer be able to watch the idol's actions because of his decision to retire.
Seeing the achievements of the rider, Dorna Sport as the promoter of MotoGP plans to give appreciation for what Rossi has achieved throughout his career.
Quoted from Corsedimoto, Thursday, December 30, the name The Doctor will be immortalized as the name of the trophy for one of the awards available in MotoGP.
Dorna Sport's decision refers to the figure of Rossi, who is loved by many people, not only because of his collection of 9 world titles, 235 podiums, and 115 victories, but also because of his charisma.
His humorous and friendly character is recognized as being able to turn MotoGP into a global sports championship that has a network of fans around the world.
With his distinguished achievements and his important role in developing this motorcycle racing, Rossi was previously also awarded the title of MotoGP Legend at the 2021 FIM MotoGP Awards in Valencia, just the night after he had his last race.
But for Dorna Sport, it is still not enough until they intend to give another appreciation in the form of embedding the name of the trophy. This is because the driver himself had previously been very vocal in refusing to have his name immortalized as a corner name, and refused to have his racing number, #46, retired.
This form of appreciation to Rossi seems to be starting to be applied next season. However, until now Dorna Sport still has not determined which trophy will be named the Valentino Rossi Trophy.
However, it is clear that the trophy will be given to one of the awards in the highest class. Rumors circulated that the trophy will be given to the MotoGP rider who has collected the fastest laps in a season.
