KSPI Is Not Willing To The Government To Temporarily Stop The BPJS Employment Contribution
JAKARTA - The President of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal rejects the government's plan to temporarily suspend payment of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan dues.
"KSPI firmly rejects the government's plan to launch a stimulus in the form of exemption or postponement of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan contributions," Said Iqbal said in a written statement, Sunday, August 23.
Said said that the temporary suspension of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan contributions to help industry adjust their financial conditions would be detrimental to workers.
He explained that the work accident insurance contribution is 0.54 percent and the death insurance contribution is 0.3 percent, which comes from the workers' wages, which is fully covered or paid by the company.
In addition, the old age insurance contribution is paid by 3.7 percent by the company and 2 percent from the workers. Then for pension security, 2 percent is paid by the employer and 1 percent of the worker's salary.
"Every month, employers are required to pay work accident insurance, death benefits, old age benefits, and pension benefits to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan at 6.54 percent of workers' wages," he said.
Based on Law Number 40 of 2004 concerning the National Social Security System (SJSN), the benefits obtained from a number of social security as such, are fully returned to workers.
Meanwhile, if at this time the contributions were stopped, the workers would be disadvantaged because it would reduce the accumulation of old age savings and pension benefits they received.
"By stopping the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan contributions, the entrepreneurs who will benefit are the ones. Because they don't pay dues. Meanwhile, workers suffer losses, because the value of old age insurance and pension benefits does not increase as long as contributions are stopped, "said Said Iqbal.
Previously reported, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani said that the government was drafting a government regulation regarding the postponement of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This, said Sri, was done in order to respond to the needs of each industry, which specifically must have certain conditions.
"The PP is in the process of being finalized. Hopefully it can be postponed until December so that it can be alleviated," said Sri Mulyani.
