President Jokowi Inaugurates Pidekso Dam In Wonogiri

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Pidekso Dam, Wonogiri Regency, Central Java (Central Java), which can irrigate 1,500 hectares of rice fields in the local district.

"This dam has a capacity of 25 million cubic meters with a pool area of 232 hectares that can irrigate 1,500 hectares of rice fields in Wonogiri Regency," President Jokowi said at the inauguration of the Pidekso Dam, Wonogiri, Central Java, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 28.

President Jokowi emphasized that the Indonesian people want food independence, food sovereignty, and food security to be achieved, so reservoirs are the key.

“Reservoir is key, water is key. Therefore, we are building reservoirs in all provinces in our country," said the President.

Before inaugurating the Pidekso Dam in Wonogiri, President Jokowi also inaugurated the Ladongi Dam in East Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province on Tuesday morning.

The construction of the Pidekso Dam will cost Rp. 772 billion. The dam was built in 2014 for the land acquisition phase, and 2017 for the construction phase.

According to data quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), the Pidekso Dam is also capable of providing raw water of 300 liters/second and can reduce flooding by 322.60 cubic meters/second.

The fulfillment of this water need can be met from the Pidekso Dam's reservoir of 25 million cubic meters in an inundated area of 232 hectares.

In addition to irrigation, the dam, which is located in Pidekso Village, Giriwoyo District, Wonogiri Regency, also functions as a flood control, conservation area, and tourism destination so that it can help improve the welfare of the surrounding community. The total cost of building this dam comes from the state budget.
