Stray Kids Satire For The Older Generation Of Korea In The Song Gone Days

JAKARTA - The K-pop group from South Korea, Stray Kids, is presenting a music video for STAY (as Stray Kids fans are called). This digital single titled Gone Days is dedicated to people who often compare what happened in the past with the present.

The song Gone Days was written by the leader of the Stray Kids group, Bangchan and rapper Giriboy. Stray Kids also uses the title Gone Days as a wordplay or wordplay from Korean, 꼰대 (Kkondae) when interpreted as a slang word to describe someone who is old and often forces his old ideas to suppress someone.

Through this music video, Stray Kids harshly criticizes people who often use their age and power to suppress the younger generation or millennials. Uniquely, the release of the music clip was shown at the same time as one of the Stray Kids personnel who was taking a lesson class with a horse.

They began singing verse after verse of Gone Days and displayed indifferent expressions towards the classes they attended. Lyrics “Never mind the past. This is the new generation, go away. " is one of the lyrics that emphasizes their perspective as the younger generation who often hear stories from older people.

At the end of the video, the horse-like teacher leaves the classroom and writes Word of the Day: 자습 (Ja-seub) or teaches himself. The horse teacher is the kkondae symbol which is the slang of the title Gone Days.

Reportedly JYP, the owner of the JYP Entertainment agency, which oversees Stray Kids, felt 'offended', when Bang Chan showed the song Gone Days. JYP or Park Jin Young is a popular solo singer of the 90s. Now he is the leader and founder of the music label JYP Entertainment.

Previously, Stray Kids had just made a comeback with the song Levanter which was taken from the album Clé_LEVANTER. The song won first place on iTunes overseas.

Currently, Stray Kids is preoccupied with promoting Levanter in music shows as well as filling in year-end events. Meanwhile, after releasing Gone Days, the hashtag #StrayKids_GoneDays entered the trending topic.
