JAKARTA - Indonesia's dream to have health tourism is starting to be realized. The initial stage of construction begins with building the Bali International Hospital or Bali International Hospital. The development plan for this health area is planned by the Ministry of SOEs.
As is known, the laying of the first stone or groundbreaking for the construction of this hospital was just carried out by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) today in Denpasar, Bali.
SOE Minister Erick Thohir said that this international hospital had two functions. In addition to helping Bali to have new tourism and health tourism, this hospital is also expected to be able to support health services for investors whose workers or professionals are in Indonesia.
"Because this investment means that they also want to ensure their health is guaranteed, international health standards for their workers or professionals in Indonesia. That's why it's very important that we build this health platform in Bali," he said, at the Bali International Hospital groundbreaking event. virtual, Monday, December 27.
Furthermore, Erick targets the construction of this international hospital project to be completed in May 2023.
"We make sure this international hospital is established. God willing, the target is (completed) in May 2023," he said.
Erick also emphasized that the construction of this hospital used state-owned funds. He said that in 2020, a total net profit of Rp. 390 billion was achieved by BUMN and in 2021, with ecosystem improvements and efficiency here and there, the total net profit achieved by BUMN was Rp. 2.6 trillion.
"So the construction of this Bali International Hospital, apart from using its own funds (BUMN), will also be assisted by Bank BNI," he said.
Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) carried out the groundbreaking of the Bali International Hospital (RS) located in the Sanur Tourism Area, Denpasar City, Bali Province, today. With the existence of the hospital, Jokowi hopes that people will no longer seek treatment abroad.
"Alhamdulillah, this morning we will start the construction of the Bali International Hospital which will work together with the Mayo Clinic from America. We hope that Sanur will become a health SEZ and we hope that there will be no more, if this happens, there will be no more people." we, our people, go abroad to get health services," he said.
Jokowi said that the construction of the Bali International Hospital was based on data that every year there are approximately 2 million Indonesians who go abroad to get health services.
The destination countries include Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, the United States, and other places.

Therefore, Jokowi appreciates the plan to build the Bali International Hospital which was initiated by the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir and his staff.
Furthermore, Jokowi also hopes that Bali will become a health tourism destination which will increase the number of tourist visits to the island of Bali.
