Ahead Of The Peak Of The Rainy Season, The People Of West Java Are Urged To Be Vigilant
JAKARTA - The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources appealed to people in West Java, especially in areas prone to landslides and flash floods, to intensify disaster preparedness and mitigation ahead of the peak of the rainy season for the January-March 2022 period.
"On Friday, December 24, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) informed that before the peak of the rainy season in January-March 2022, West Java Province should intensify disaster mitigation," said Head of the Geological Agency, Eko Budi Lelono, quoted from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources website at Jakarta, Saturday, December 25.
From this information, the Geological Agency made a map of the potential for ground motion in January 2022 based on the overlay map of the soil movement vulnerability zone from the Geological Agency and a map of the forecast for the rainy season in January 2022 from the BMKG.
"The overlay results show that West Java has a high potential for landslides and flash floods," said Eko.
Therefore, the Geological Agency appeals to local governments in West Java Province which include Bogor Regency, Sukabumi Regency, Cianjur Regency, Sukabumi Regency, Garut Regency, Tasikmalaya Regency, Pangandaran Regency, Ciamis Regency, Sumedang Regency, Majalengka Regency, Kuningan Regency, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, Subang Regency, and Cirebon Regency, as well as people living in disaster-prone areas to intensify preparedness and mitigation.
"People who live in areas with the potential for high ground movements or areas prone to landslides and flash floods, such as in river valleys, riverbanks, river channels, as well as people who live under cliffs to increase preparedness in the face of landslide disasters, flash floods, and the flow of debris," he explained. Eko also asked the public not to be provoked by hoax news related to disasters and to always follow directions from the competent authorities, such as the Geological Agency, BMKG, BNPB, ministries and institutions, as well as local governments.
"For other provinces, which have high ground movement potential and can be seen on the map for forecasting the potential for ground movement in January 2022, in order to improve preparedness and mitigation to anticipate disaster threats," he said.
