Visit The Church, Mahfud: All Religions And Their Adherents Are Protected In Indonesia
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (MenkoPolhukam) Mahfud MD visited the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Surabaya on Christmas Day today.
During his visit, Mahfud emphasized that all religious people and all religious institutions received the same protection in Indonesia as a Pancasila state.
Mahfud emphasized that Indonesia is not a religious country whose system is regulated based on one religion and Indonesia is also not a secular country, where religion must be completely separated from state life.
"Indonesia is neither a secular state nor a religious state, but a Pancasila state. In the Pancasila state, all religions and their adherents are protected for their lives," said Mahfud, Saturday, December 25.
Pancasila, continued Mahfud, mandates that all religions bring goodness. This is stated in the First Precept, namely "God Almighty".
"That is why, our country's first basis is based on the belief in the One Supreme God, not based on religion A, B or C. The Supreme Godhead is then institutionalized and everything is protected by the state," said Mahfud. Christmas atmosphere this year is going well. He was sure that the Christmas celebration would run safely until it was over.
"I am happy to have received reports from the Pangdam and Kapolda, from the Regional Government and the Church as well, that so far, the atmosphere is conducive. There is optimism and joy, God willing, today and tomorrow in relation to Christmas everything will run safely throughout Indonesia," " he explained.
