Government Can Save Rp 6 Billion Meal Budget More Than Christmas Remission
JAKARTA - Giving remissions or reducing prison terms to prisoners on Christmas Day 2021 saves prisoners' food budget by more than Rp. 6 billion.
"Out of a total of 12,641 inmates who received special remissions (RK) I and II, the food budget saved for prisoners amounted to Rp. 6,601,185,000," said Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Section of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Rika Aprianti. Jakarta, Saturday, December 25.
He conveyed that giving special remissions I to 12,562 inmates saved food budgets of up to Rp. 6,563,190,000, while granting special remissions II to 79 inmates reduced food expenses by Rp. 37,995,000.
The Directorate General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights granted special remissions I and II for Christmas 2021 to 12,641 Catholic and Protestant Christian prisoners in various correctional institutions in Indonesia.
Special remission I is a reduction in the prison term, while special remission II is a reduction in the period of detention that ends in release. So far, there are a total of 19,609 Protestant and Catholic Christian prisoners spread across various parts of Indonesia.
For Christmas this year, the highest number of special remission recipients were in North Sumatra with 2,456 inmates, followed by East Nusa Tenggara with 1,756 inmates, and in Papua with 1,158 inmates.
"Christmas remission is the right of prisoners who have met the administrative and substantive requirements according to the legislation. However, remission is not just a reduction in the criminal period, it is hoped that it can also increase the faith and motivation of prisoners to be better," he said.
He continued to convey that the granting of remission was carried out online through the Correctional Database System.
Of the 12,562 inmates who received a reduced term of detention, 2,296 of them received a 15-day remission, 7,884 received a reduction of 1 month or 30 days, 1,854 received a reduction of 1 month and 15 days, and 528 others received a reduction of 2 months.
Of the 79 convicts who were immediately released, 28 of them received 15-day remission, 34 received one month's remission, 15 received 15-day remission for one month, and two received two-month remission.
Data from the Directorate General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights as of December 23, 2021, shows that there are 273,992 prisoners in prison in Indonesia, consisting of 226,093 prisoners and 47,899 prisoners. This was reported by Antara.
