TNI Commander Deploys 10,657 Christmas Security Personnel
JAKARTA - TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa said 10,657 personnel were deployed to assist the National Police in carrying out Christmas 2021 security in the country.
"In all parts of Indonesia, requests for security assistance have been made, varied, but in total the TNI deployed 10,657 personnel today," said Andika after accompanying DPR Speaker Puan Maharani with National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to conduct a Christmas security review at the Cathedral, Jakarta, Friday, December 24. .
According to General Andika, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo is in charge of securing Christmas 2021 throughout Indonesia. However, the TNI also plays a role in helping mobilize personnel as needed.
"Essentially, we are ready to provide assistance to the National Police to secure it because this (Christmas) is a holiday for Indonesian citizens who are Christians, and is one of the big 'events'," he said.
Meanwhile, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that apart from ensuring security runs smoothly, he also ensures that health protocols are implemented by the people.
The health protocols that are considered start from screening through the PeduliLindung application to when people are in the church while still wearing masks.
According to Listyo, the government continues to try to control COVID-19 cases, where the current number of positive cases (positivity rate) is below 1 percent.
But on the other hand, the number of positive cases last year jumped to 2.5 times after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
"This is a lesson for all of us that although the current number of COVID-19 is good, we must remain vigilant so that we pass the end of the year and enter the beginning of the year, all that we have achieved we can maintain," he said.
