Considered Inhuman, DPR Invites People To Boycott TMTM Filming At The Semeru Eruption Refugee Location

JAKARTA - Commission VIII of the House of Representatives has responded to a viral video of a soap opera filming scene at the Mount Semeru eruption refugee location circulating on social media. The shooting was for the purpose of showing the soap opera entitled Forced to Marry Tuan Muda (TMTM) which was produced by a VP production house.

The chairman of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives, Yandri Susanto, emphasized that filming at the disaster site was an inhumane act. He asked the producers of the film not to show it.

"It is not feasible and inhumane because the disaster location is used as a shooting location and so on. We ask that it does not need to be broadcast, because it has hurt many people," said Yandri, Friday, December 24.

In fact, the head of the commission in charge of disaster issues also invited the public to boycott the film. "If it's broadcast in a boycott, you don't have to watch it," said the PAN politician.

In addition, Yandri appealed to all elements of society to just focus on disaster management and not carry out activities that actually injure disaster victims.

"We ask the parties, whether it's the local government, ministries/agencies, which focus on handling disaster situations, to be more selective about people who actually carry out activities in refugee camps, so they don't hurt the feelings of refugees," Yandri appealed.

He reminded that this incident should be used as a lesson for all parties to have more empathy for disaster victims by not taking advantage.

"So this is important going forward to be a very valuable lesson, don't repeat it again," said Yandri.
