From The Deputy Chairman Of The DPR And A Suspect In The KPK, Azis Syamsuddin: I Am Sincere, This Is God's Decree
JAKARTA - Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from the Golkar Party faction Azis Syamsuddin said he was sincerely involved in the alleged bribery case to former KPK investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju and advocate Maskur Husain.
"Just because of the 'he said' factor and that 'I accept', but that's okay, I'm sincere that this is God's decree," said Azis Syamsuddin at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor), Thursday, December 23.
During the trial, Stepanus Robin Pattuju, Maskur Husain and the former Regent of Kutai Kutai Kartanegara Rita Widyasari were present as witnesses.
Azis Syamsuddin was charged with giving bribes worth IDR 3,099 billion and US$ 36,000 for a total of around IDR 3,619 billion to former KPK investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju and advocate Maskur Husain related to the management of the KPK investigation in Central Lampung.
"But in the statement, the witness stated that you never met Aliza? How do you believe it was a down payment from Aliza and from me?" Azis Syamsuddin asked Maskur Husain.
"So I actually concluded because Robin repeatedly said that (the money) to oversee and monitor the case with Aliza Gunadi was repeatedly mentioned, so I concluded that if not from here, where else would it come from," replied Maskur.
"Because of this, witness, with your statement, that this endangers me and I was proven today to be a suspect and detained in KPK C1 detention, and I have been removed from the deputy chairman of the DPR and I have resigned on September 6, 2021," said Azis with disappointed tone.
"Only because one of the elements of the offense that was reported to you when the case was filed in my case file, which was set on the 24th, then I held a case on September 1 (2021) then immediately on September 2 I was named a suspect," added Azis.
Azis then also asked Stepanus Robin Pattuju regarding the cases that Robin had handled while he was a KPK investigator.
"You have handled several cases while at the KPK, namely PTPN III was completed in 2019, then the Sukamiskin prison case was completed in 2020, the Banggai Laut regent case was completed in 2021 and the Jasindo case which is currently still in process but not finished right?" Azis asked Robin.
"Yes, that's right, that's the only case that I handle," answered Robin. Related to this case, Stepanus Robin and Maskur Husain are also accused of receiving bribes of Rp. 11.5 billion related to the management of five cases at the KPK.
Former KPK investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju was sentenced to 12 years in prison plus a fine of Rp. 500 million, subsidiary to 6 months in prison, plus the obligation to pay compensation of Rp. 2,322,577,000, subsidiary to 2 years in prison.
Meanwhile, his colleague, Maskur Husain, was charged with 10 years in prison plus a fine of Rp. 500 million, subsidiary of 6 months in prison and the obligation to pay compensation of Rp. 8,702,500,000 and US$ 36 thousand, subsidiary of 5 years in prison.
