The Defeat Of Lyon Is A Blessing For Ajax

JAKARTA - Lyon's defeat of Bayern Munich with a score of 0-3 in the Champions League semifinals on Thursday morning brought blessings for Ajax Amsterdam. The Dutch giants confirmed tickets to the Champions League group stage for next season.

UEFA's coefficient at the end of the 2018/2019 season put the Netherlands in 11th place. This means that the Dutch champions will only be able to appear in the Champions League group stage if the winners of this season's elite European competitions qualify for the next edition.

Lyon will not participate in the Champions League next season based on their position in the domestic league final standings, and they are the only threat to Ajax's participation in this elite competition.

But Bayern's 3-0 win over Lyon ended the French team's hopes and confirmed the ticket for Ajax.

Ajax is currently in pot 3 in the Champions League draw, but that may change depending on the results of other fixtures.

In the 2019/2020 season Ajax only finished third in Group H and failed to qualify for the knockout phase. They then competed in the Europa League, before losing 2-3 on aggregate to Getafe in the last 32.
