TikTok Crowned The Most Popular Website This Year, Beats Google And Facebook
JAKARTA - This year TikTok was named the most popular website, and managed to beat the position of Google and Meta's Facebook.
The data was obtained from Cloudflare, a website security and performance company. Previously, TikTok was in the 7th and 8th positions of Cloudflare's list, but it was surprisingly number one this year.
However, Cloudflare uses their own personal tool namely Cloudflare Radar, which was launched earlier in September 2020 to obtain the data. This means that data from last year only covers September to December, while 2021 is obtained for the full year.
"On February 17, 2021, TikTok managed to grab the top spot for a day. (Then) In March, TikTok got a few more days and also in May, but after August 10, 2021, TikTok leads almost every day. There are days when Google 1, from October and November most TikTok Days, including Thanksgiving (November 25) and Black Friday (November 26)," said Cloudflare.
Reporting from NBC News, Thursday, December 23, because TikTok is first, it means Google is in second place. Then behind Google this year, Cloudflare ranked Facebook, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, YouTube, Twitter, and WhatsApp.
In the second year of the pandemic, social media domains continue to be high in our rankings. The nine major social media apps are all on our list of the 100 most popular global domains. We can see that TikTok is taking Facebook off its crown as the most popular social media website domain in our ranking. ," said Cloudflare.
Before being named the most popular website version of Cloudflare, TikTok is also predicted to become the third largest social network in the world, just behind Facebook and Instagram by 2022 based on data from Insider Intelligence.
The company, formerly known as eMarketer, uses TikTok's global application installation base. They predict that TikTok will reach 755 million monthly users by 2022, after seeing 59.8 percent growth in 2020, followed by 40.8 percent growth in 2021.
Meanwhile, Facebook, on its latest revenue report, reported 2.91 billion monthly active users after seeing a 6 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth. Insider Intelligence predicts Facebook will reach 2.1 billion monthly users by 2022.
