After The Student Raped Until Pregnant In Bandung, The Vice President Ma'ruf Gave A Firm Message: The Name Of The Islamic Boarding School Must Be Protected

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, appealed to all parties to maintain the good name of the pesantren so that there is no bad record related to the management of the Islamic educational institution.

This was conveyed by Ma'ruf following the rape case by a boarding school teacher in Bandung, West Java, some time ago. Dozens of female students became victims of the perverted teacher.

"The name of the Islamic boarding school must be protected. Yesterday, we have been tarnished. How come there is a boarding school committing sexual violence," he said, at the Muhammadiyah Sabilil Muttaqien Islamic Boarding School, Lampung, Antara, Thursday, December 23.

He also appealed to all local governments and the public to participate in maintaining the sustainability of Islamic boarding schools, and to report if criminal acts and violations of the law were found in them.

"Mr. Governor of Lampung (Arinal Djunaidi), this must be guarded, don't let this happen in other places," he said.

In addition, he also appealed to all Islamic boarding schools scattered in various regions to become centers for empowering the surrounding community.

Islamic boarding schools that already have a Micro Waqf Board (BWM), are also expected to be able to manage these Islamic microfinance institutions well, thereby gaining public trust.

"I hope this BWM is managed well, this is a mandate, so that there is no distrust in the pesantren. (Don't let it) Be given a mandate, instead of growing, it runs out," he said.

Meanwhile, related to cases of violence, both sexual and physical, in Islamic boarding schools, the Ministry of Religion sent all its staff to carry out investigations in the regions.

The Minister of Religion, Yaqut C Qoumas, ordered his entire staff to conduct a thorough investigation, starting at the provincial, district and city levels, as a form of mitigation against violence in Islamic boarding schools.

"We are investing in reducing all ranks of the Ministry of Religion, conducting investigations in their respective areas. So if there is something similar, we will carry out similar mitigation. So, don't wait for something to happen first," he said.
