Even Though Many Complain That Quarantine Rates At Hotels Reach Tens Of Millions, PHRI Still Feels It Is Cheap
JAKARTA - Secretary General of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Maulana Yusran assessed that the rate of self-quarantine at hotels - at fantastic prices - was not at all profitable for business because it was far below the existing tariff standards. Even though many complained that the tariff was deemed too expensive.
According to Maulana, the maximum rate for self-quarantine at hotels, which is set at around Rp. 7.2 million for two-star hotels and Rp. 21 million for luxury category hotels, is a package price for 10 days.
"It's not (profitable), it's even cheaper and the price is also not dynamic. This is a package price. It looks expensive because of the 10-day factor," Maulana said as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 22.
In addition to the package price for 10 days, the fantastic-looking quarantine rate also includes meals for three meals a day and laundry for five pieces of clothing per day.
He explained, with a 10-day quarantine rate at a two-star hotel starting from IDR 6.7 million to a maximum of IDR 7.2 million, the room rate is only charged around IDR 300 thousand per night. Likewise, the average cost of food is around IDR 250 thousand per day and laundry costs IDR 45 thousand per day.
"The usual rate is only (fare) for staying and breakfast. There is no lunch or dinner, laundry. The food is complete, because it is in the form of food packages," he said.
Maulana said the self-quarantine rate at the hotel also includes transportation costs from the airport to the hotel as well as costs for health workers, security as well as two PCR tests with a total of around Rp. 1.3 million to Rp. 1.35 million per package.
The below-standard rate, Maulana continued, also applies to quarantine packages at five-star and luxury hotels.
"Luxury hotels are Rp. 9 million per package for rooms only, if you calculate it, per night it is only Rp. 1 million. Complete with food and laundry, it is around Rp. 1.6-Rp. 1.7 million (per night). So of course the price is below the usual rate ," he said.
Maulana added, another factor that makes fares different for each hotel class is the cost of transportation from the airport to the hotel using executive taxis with higher rates.
"So the transportation is special, because it must be ensured that they don't run anywhere, it's an SOP from the government," he said.
People who have just returned from abroad can book hotels for self-quarantine on the https://quarantinehotelsjakarta.com page. The list of quarantine hotels is managed by the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI), where currently there are around 150 hotels and 16,500 rooms that can be used for self-quarantine.
In detail, quarantine hotel rates for 9 nights 10 days for two-star hotels are IDR 6.7 million to a maximum of IDR 7.2 million; three-star hotels from Rp. 7.7 million to Rp. 9.1 million; four stars Rp9.2 million-Rp11.4 million; five stars Rp. 12.4 million to Rp. 16 million; and luxury hotels from Rp. 17 million to Rp. 21 million.
The rate includes 21 percent tax and services and is valid for one person. The rate also includes room, three meals a day, laundry five pieces of clothing per day, airport transportation to the hotel, PCR test twice (at the airport and at the hotel), including the cost of health workers, security and lab while at the hotel.
