Fake Police Fraudster In Sidoarjo Arrested

SIDOARJO - The Sidoarjo Police Team, East Java, arrested a fraud perpetrator, namely a man with the initials AP under the guise of claiming to be a member of the National Police.

Sidoarjo Police Chief Kombes Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro said the fraud case began when victims of the FAP scam sought help to borrow money with car guarantees.

Because he was afraid that the car that was used as collateral would have problems, the FAP victim shared his desire with Siri AP's wife. AP claimed to be a member of the National Police serving in Sidoarjo.

"The suspect AP, who claimed to be a member of the National Police, then met the victim, and the victim told the story in the hope that AP can help," said the police chief quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 21.

After that, the AP asked for Rp13 million as a cost to solve the problems experienced by the victims. However, FAP victims were only able to fulfill the Rp. 8.5 million deposited to the suspect.

After the FAP victim deposited money to the suspect AP on December 16, 2021, the victim then received information that AP was not a member of the National Police.

"Furthermore, the victim reported what happened to the Sidoarjo Police," he said.

Receiving the report, the Satreskrim Polresta Sidoarjo arrested AP, and from the results of police investigations, the suspect had previously carried out similar actions to two other victims worth Rp. 50 million.

"The perpetrator of AP is a recidivist in the theft case, as referred to in Article 362 of the Criminal Code on July 18 2019, with a 10-month prison sentence which was handled by the Sidoarjo Police Satreskrim," said Kombes Kusumo.

AP, a suspect in a fraud case under the guise of a member of the National Police, is threatened with punishment in accordance with Article 378 of the Criminal Code.

"The maximum prison sentence is four years," he said.
