Sandiaga Uno Supported By Ijtima Ulama, Gerindra Confirms Only Prabowo Subianto

JAKARTA - The Gerindra Party asserts that it only supports General Chair Prabowo Subianto as a presidential candidate (candidate) in 2024.

This was emphasized by the Secretary General of the Gerindra Party Ahmad Muzani regarding the issue of several Ijtima Ulama who supported Sandiaga Uno as a presidential candidate.

Apart from Prabowo, Muzani stated that there is no other name that will be carried by Gerindra. He also made sure that Sandiaga would not be recommended by Gerindra even though he had the support of Ijtima Ulama.

"It is clear enough, quite firm, that the Gerindra Party's request for its name is Prabowo Subianto. His name has not changed, it has not changed, it is single, only Prabowo," said Muzani in a statement, Tuesday, December 21.

Although it has not met the presidential nomination threshold or the 20 percent presidential threshold, continued Muzani, Gerindra will seek to build a coalition with other parties to carry Prabowo forward in the 2024 presidential election.

"About other candidates, I don't want to comment. The party is only concentrating, the party is only focused on one name, Prabowo," he said.

Moreover, said Muzani, Prabowo's electability has always been at the top of the survey results. As Minister of Defense, Prabowo is also considered to have worked quite well.

"All surveys say the performance is the best. All surveys say this has the most potential," he explained.

According to the chairman of the Gerindra faction in the DPR, the survey results will bring back Gerindra supporters in the 2024 presidential election. This includes Gerindra supporters who were disappointed when Prabowo joined President Jokowi's government.

"We feel that all Prabowo supporters will return," said Muzani.

Previously, Sandiaga Uno had opened up about the accusation of fabricating Ijtima Ulama. The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) emphasized that currently he is only focusing on the revival of the Indonesian tourism sector.

"My response is, of course, now my focus is on Tourism and Creative Economy. I don't think about doing other things at all," said Sandiaga, Sunday, December 19.
