Police Examine 2 Unsri Deans As Witnesses In Cases Of Student Sexual Harassment

PALEMBANG - South Sumatra Police investigators examined two deans at Sriwijaya University (Unsri) as witnesses related to a case of alleged sexual harassment of female students by a lecturer.

The two witnesses were the Dean of the Faculty of Economics (FE) Unsri Mohammad Adam and the Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIK) Hartono. They were examined by investigators from the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the South Sumatra Police, Monday, December 20 for about eight hours.

Head of Sub-Directorate IV for Youth, Children and Women (Renakta) at the South Sumatra Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, Kompol Masnoni, said investigators gave each witness about 30 questions.

There are also question points related to the academic system such as how the mechanism for appointing supervisors and examiners for students is applied.

"They are examined as witnesses to provide information related to the academic system, how to propose thesis guidance, and what the thesis guidance mechanism is," he said.

According to him, they were not alone while providing information to investigators but were accompanied by their respective assistants, who were also asked for information.

"Witness the dean of FE came along with the Head of the Academic Subdivision and the dean of the FKIP with the Head of the History Study Program. We asked both of them for information," he said.

For that, he said, from the two case reports of alleged sexual harassment that they received from reporters DR, F, C, and D, they had examined eight witnesses for the suspect on behalf of A non-active lecturer at FKIP Unsri and as many as 12 witnesses for suspect R, an inactive lecturer at FE. Unsri.

"For now, we are still asking for statements from witnesses and experts. After that, the files for the suspects can be transferred immediately," he said.
