Klopp Highlights Referee Performance After Liverpool Detained By Tottenham

JAKARTA - Liverpool only came home with one point after visiting Tottenham Hotspurs headquarters in the 18th week of the 2021/2022 English League. After the draw match which was held on Sunday, December 18 at Selhurst Park Stadium, Jurgen Klopp highlighted the performance of the referee on duty.

The Liverpool coach considers the referee's decisions to be detrimental to his team. The first thing that caught the attention of Klopp was the foul committed by Hary Kane.

At that time, Kane was seen making a hard tackle on Andy Robertson which the referee considered not a hard foul, so he only gave a yellow card as a warning to Kane. Meanwhile, Robertson's violation of Emerson Royal ended in a red card.

"Yes of course. You can give Robbo (Robertson) a red card. It wasn't the smartest try (tackling) but it was definitely a red card. No doubt about it. His foot was in the air, it was pure coincidence. Harry couldn't judge it. Robbo on the ground, it can break," Klopp said annoyed as quoted by the BBC.

Not only that, this German tactician also questioned the poor performance of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). According to him, technology is completely useless if it is not used properly.

"We had VAR there and he (the referee) was thinking of looking back at Robertson again. Well that's what he's there for. But what does he do in that situation? said Klopp.

Another thing that Klopp criticized again was the referee's decision not to give the Reds a penalty after Diogo Jota was fouled in the forbidden box. On the other hand, the Portuguese player was actually considered diving.

Despite Klopp's scathing criticism of the referee's performance in this match, one point pocketed by Liverpool made the Reds fail to stick to Manchester City who are at the top of the standings. The reason, Liverpool are currently three points behind Pep Guardiola's team.
