Empower.
This cooperation is a follow-up to the signing of the agreement
Joint (MoU) between the Ministry of Trade and 43 universities throughout Indonesia
which was inaugurated at the Peak of the Commemoration of National Consumer Day on October 28, 2021.
The Director General of Consumer Protection and Trade Order at the Ministry of Trade Veri Anggrijono said the Ministry of Trade encouraged the Bali Provincial Government to intensify the implementation of consumer protection by holding activities that directly involve consumers. One of them is by involving students
Furthermore, Veri said that students can be a bridge to motivate their environment to become smart and empowered consumers. He also expressed his optimism about the role of students.
"Students are the vanguard or spearhead of intelligent and empowered consumers who are able to disseminate information and education, both through social media and directly into the community. It is hoped that academics and students can synergize with the government in implementing consumer protection activities, especially in the surrounding environment, " said Veri, in an official statement, quoted on Sunday, December 19.
Vari said that based on the results of the Consumer Empowerment Index (IKK) survey conducted by the Ministry of Trade in 2020, Bali was at an index of 48.32. This means that it is already at the 'capable' level. This position is still below the National IKK with an average IKK for urban areas of 49.28 and 47.36 for rural areas.
"The IKK at the national level is indexed at 49.07 which shows that Indonesian consumers are still at the 'able' level. This means that Indonesian consumers are able to exercise their rights and obligations to make the best choices and use domestic products," he said.
Therefore, Veri said that consumer protection must be massive, cross-sectoral, continuous, and make consumers the subject of development and market determinants.
"It is hoped that this activity can strengthen cooperation and coordination in order to enforce the Law on Consumer Protection to create empowered consumers," he said.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Udayana University Putu Gede Arya Sumerta Yasa said that his party was ready to assist the government in realizing consumer protection.
"The Faculty of Law of Udayana University Udayana is ready to synergize with the government to realize consumer protection," said Putu.
