Floods In Gunungsitoli City Have Started To Recede Since Dawn, It's Time For Residents To Clean Up

JAKARTA - 350 houses belonging to residents in Gunungsitoli City, North Sumatra Province, were flooded this morning due to the overflowing of a number of rivers in the city as a result of heavy rains that flushed the area.

The chief executive (Kalak) of the Gunungsitoli City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Ignatius Harefa, said Friday in Gunungsitoli that the water that inundated residents' houses came from overflowing the Nou River in Gunungsitoli District and the Afia River and Sowu River in North Gunungsitoli District. with water levels reaching 1 meter to 4 meters.

"The flooding occurred due to the occurrence of a fairly high intensity of rain in Gunungsitoli City since Thursday (16/12) night," said Ignatius as quoted by Antara.

"River water overflowed and inundated people's houses starting Friday morning at around 02.00 WIB," he added, Friday, December 17.

The evacuation of residents whose houses were flooded was carried out by the Gunungsitoli City BPBD in collaboration with the Nias Basarnas, Satpol PP and TNI from Kodim 0213/Nias.

Currently, he said, some residents have gone home to clean their respective homes following the water level which has begun to recede.

"After the flood, the Gunungsitoli City BPBD distributed clean water for the needs of residents affected by the flood and was always on standby if there was an improvement in conditions," said gnatius Harefa.
