28 Bodies Of Victims Of The Semeru Eruption Identified Have Been Brought By Their Families

JAKARTA - The East Java Regional Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Nico Afinta stated that the bodies of 28 victims of the hot cloud fall from Mount Semeru in Lumajang, which had been identified by the National Police's Disaster Victim Identification Team (DVI), had been taken by their families.

"The DVI team received 44 body bags consisting of 38 bodies and six body parts. From the 38 bodies, 28 bodies have been identified and their families have taken them," said Nico Afinta in a release received in Lumajang Regency, Friday, December 17.

He appealed to people who felt that their families had become victims of the natural disaster of Mount Semeru's Hot Clouds to take an active role by coming to Dr. Haryoto Lumajang Hospital for DNA testing.

"The health task force asks people who feel that their families have not been found to come to Dr. Haryoto Lumajang Hospital and take samples of their DNA so they can be matched with the bodies found by the joint SAR team," he said.

According to him, the DVI team is trying their best to identify the bodies that have not been identified, but need the help of survivors who lost their families due to the Mount Semeru disaster.

Regarding disaster management, he continued, the East Java Regional Police had formed several task forces, including the Evacuation Search Task Force, Health Task Force, Logistics Task Force and Public Relations Task Force.

"11 tracking dogs for the K-9 Satwa unit from the National Police Headquarters and the East Java Regional Police and their ranks will remain on alert during the search for victims of the Mount Semeru hot cloud avalanche," he said, quoted from Antara/

Based on data from the Lumajang BPBD, the number of victims who died as a result of the hot clouds falling from Mount Semeru was 48 people, then 18 people suffered serious injuries and nine people suffered minor injuries.

The number of sub-districts affected by eruption material and volcanic ash in 21 sub-districts in Lumajang Regency with a total of 10,158 displaced residents spread over 151 points.
