Not Yet Brought To The Plenary Session, Puan Maharani: DPR Wants To Decide On The TPKS Bill According To The Mechanism

JAKARTA - The Draft Law on the Crime of Sexual Violence (RUU TPKS) has not yet been brought to the plenary session closing the trial period today, Thursday, December 16. This means that the DPR has not been able to take the approval of the TPKS Bill as a proposal for the DPR's initiative.

The chairman of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani, said that the institution only wanted to decide on the TPKS Bill according to the existing mechanism, so that its implementation would run properly and correctly.

"This (approval of the TPKS Bill as a proposed DPR initiative, ed) is only a matter of time because there is not yet the right or sufficient time to carry out the existing mechanism," said Puan at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Thursday, December 16.

The PDIP politician explained that there were no problems with the TPKS Bill. Therefore, it will be decided during the Session III Period of the 2021-2022 Session which starts on January 11, 2022.

"The DPR supports that the TPKS Bill is immediately passed to become a law that can protect and save things (cases of sexual violence, ed) that are currently happening a lot," explained Puan.

Puan added that the decision on the bill must be in accordance with the applicable mechanism so that when it becomes a law, it will not be judged to have exceeded the applicable mechanism.

"The leadership of the DPR supports that the TPKS Bill should be immediately taken at the second level, namely through a plenary session to be approved so that it becomes a law," said Puan.
