Marcelo And Modric Test Positive For COVID-19, When Will They Return To Play?
JAKARTA - Bad news came from Real Madrid, the Spanish giant club reported that COVID-19 had infected the club. Two Los Blancos players, Luka Modric and Marcelo, tested positive.
"Real Madrid CF informs that our players Marcelo and Luka Modric have tested positive for COVID-19," read a club statement quoted by VOI, Thursday 15 December.
From the statement it was also known that Modric and Marcelo were infected without suffering any symptoms. However, Real Madrid said both players had undergone a process of isolation according to Spanish health protocols.
With the announcement made by Madrid about two of its players who were positive for COVID-19, this added to the long record of cases of footballers who were exposed to the virus from Wuhan.
Valencia had previously confirmed that they had four cases of COVID-19 on Monday, including that of coach Jose Bordalas and two of his players.
Meanwhile in England, 42 players and staff of Premier League clubs have tested positive in the past week. That number is the highest number in England's top caste football competition in seven days.
Not only that, the COVID-19 storm that hit Tottenham Hotspur even made UEFA postpone the Conference League match against French club Rennes last week.
Then, when will Marcelo and Modric return to play?
The veteran left-back and midfielder will miss Cadiz's home game on Sunday and the trip to Athletic Club on Wednesday, Real Madrid's final two games of 2021.
Los Blancos' next game is in the new year when they travel to Getafe. They should both be back in this game.
In Spain, those who test positive are required to undergo a 10-day quarantine.
