Dangerous Hard Drugs Smuggled In Rice Custody For Banyuwangi Prison Prisoners
BANYUWANGI – The smuggling of dangerous drugs into the Class IIA prison in Banyuwangi, East Java was thwarted by officers. The medicine is neatly packed in a rice bag which will be sent to one of the inmates at the prison.
The head of Banyuwangi village, Wahyu Indarto, said that the incident began when one of the men with the initials R wanted to send food to the inmates with the initials AG.
According to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for storing goods and food at the Banyuwangi Prison, every item that is deposited must go through a strict inspection.
"During the inspection, the officer who was looking for 5 pills of Alprazolam type was neatly wrapped in rice. Then we conducted an examination," he said, Wednesday, December 15.
When interrogated, R was initially reluctant to confess and kept making excuses. He admitted that the item was a deposit from his girlfriend for his family in Banyuwangi Prison.
"Officers who didn't believe it then carried out a search. R couldn't dodge it, because 3.5 pills of the same drug were found in his wallet. Complete with a doctor's prescription," he said.
From the results of the development carried out, Wahyu said, R is a drug dependence rehabilitation patient. Meanwhile, AG, who was the target of the delivery of the goods, was a convict of a narcotics case.
"AG was sentenced to 8 years for the crime he made, and is currently serving 1 year and 9 months in Banyuwangi prison," said Wahyu.
Currently, R and AG are undergoing further examination by the Banyuwangi prison security forces. The thwarting effort has also been coordinated with the Banyuwangi Police Satreskoba.
"We immediately coordinated the findings with the Banyuwangi Police Satreskoba for further development," Wahyu concluded.
